Paris Catacombs Opening Hours, How Long the Visit Takes and How to Get There

Paris Catacombs hours (Tuesday to Sunday, 9:45 to 20:30, last entry 19:30), closing days, visit length, entrance and exit, checked in October 2026.

The Catacombs are open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:45 to 20:30, with last entry at 19:30, and closed every Monday. That is the rule as published by Paris Musées in October 2026. Since every ticket is a timed slot that goes on sale seven days ahead, the hours matter less than when you book: pick your slot as soon as your date is inside the window.

Opening hours and closing days

ClosedEvery Monday, plus 1 January, 1 May and 25 December
Open on holidaysAscension Thursday, 14 July, 15 August, 1 November and 11 November, unless they fall on a Monday

In 2026, 1 November is a Sunday and 11 November a Wednesday, so the Catacombs are open on both. Because capacity is capped at 200 people underground, Paris Musées may pause entry briefly when it is very busy; arrive a few minutes before your slot rather than at the last moment.

How long the visit takes

Paris Musées gives 45 minutes for the visit and suggests planning an hour. The 1.5 km route is one-way, with 131 steps down at the start and 112 up at the end. People who listen to every audio-guide stop take longer, and guided tours that open restricted rooms run longer again. Add time for the queue at your slot and the walk back: you come out at 21 bis avenue René-Coty, about 700 metres south of the entrance.

Where the entrance is

The entrance is at 1 avenue du Colonel Henri Rol-Tanguy, on Place Denfert-Rochereau in the 14th arrondissement. It is a small pavilion, one of the pair of 18th-century toll houses on the square, across from the bronze Lion of Belfort.

  • Métro lines 4 and 6 and RER B: Denfert-Rochereau, right on the square
  • Buses 38 and 68
  • Paid parking on boulevard Saint-Jacques
  • Vélib’ bike station at 2 avenue René-Coty

Line 6 runs direct from Bir-Hakeim, by the Eiffel Tower, so the two combine easily in a day.

Prices at a glance

The official ticket is €31 for adults and €25 reduced, both with the audio guide, €15 for ages 8 to 17 and free under 8, on sale online only, seven days ahead. If the official calendar is full, the same visit is sold through GetYourGuide from $43 as of October 2026, and guided tours with restricted areas from $156. Sold-out tickets compares the options.

Before you go

Bring a bag smaller than 40 x 30 x 20 cm; suitcases, large bags and motorcycle helmets are refused and there is no cloakroom. Wear flat shoes with grip and a warm layer for the 14°C, humid air, and leave the stroller behind. Toilets are at the entrance and at the exit, but not underground. Photography without flash is allowed; tripods, food and drink are not.
