Paris Catacombs Skip-the-Line and Restricted-Area Tours Compared
What skip-the-line really means at the Catacombs, and six guided tours with restricted rooms compared, from $156 to $280 as of October 2026.

“Skip the line” at the Catacombs needs a little decoding. Every visitor now has a timed ticket, and the official ticketing page is clear that your ticket gives you priority only at the time printed on it. There is still a queue at the entrance for each slot. What the guided tours sell is a group entry with its own allocation, a guide, and, on most of them, rooms that standard visitors never enter.
If you want both the fast entry and the restricted rooms, the small-group tour from LivTours is the one to book: six guests at most, 4.9/5 from 204 reviews, from $235 as of October 2026, free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
When the standard ticket is enough
For many people it is. The ticket with audio guide gets you down the same 131 steps and along the full 1.5 km public route at your own pace, for €31 on the official site or from $43 through GetYourGuide as of October 2026. If you mainly want to see the ossuary, book that and keep the difference. See Catacombs tickets for dates.
When a tour earns its price
When you want the history told by a person who can answer questions, when you would rather not wait in the slot queue, and when you want the quieter side rooms. Reviewers keep coming back to the same points: small groups, guides who know the quarry history, and the restricted areas as the highlight. One October 2026 review of the LivTours tour called “the 2 secret places” a bonus.

Before you book
Most tours meet near the entrance on Place Denfert-Rochereau, and the same rules apply as on a standard ticket: bags under 40 x 30 x 20 cm and no cloakroom, 243 steps, 14°C, no strollers, and under-14s with an adult. The route ends on avenue René-Coty, about 700 metres from where you started. If you would like to add the crypt under Notre-Dame or the sewers museum to your day, underground Paris tours covers both.
